Exterior view of Contarini degli Scrigni e Corfù palace

Palazzo Contarini degli Scrigni e Corfù

A complex, charming building formed by two palaces in the sestiere of Dorsoduro, at San Trovaso on the Canal Grande.

The two palaces were once joined and belonged to the noble Contarini family, an old Venetian family with many branches and owning many palaces that bear the Contarini name today. On one side is the Palazzo Contarini degli Scrigni, a building with loggias in the Renaissance style dating back to the early 1600s. Next to it is the gotico Gothic Palazzo Contarini Corfù, built in the 14th Century.
Here a large banquet was organised in 1524 to celebrate the wedding between Vienna Gritti, daughter of Doge Andrea Gritti, and Paolo Contarini degli Scrigni: reports from the time tell of a splendid ball with music, lights and shooting to honour the newly-weds.
