Harry’s Bar

The story of Harry's Bar started in 1929 when Giuseppe Cipriani, a Venetian barman, helped a young rich American from Boston called Harry Pickering who had run out of cash to pay its debts and return home.
Two years later, in 1931, Pickering repaid his debt and helped Cipriani to open a bar to which he gave his name.
The choice of location was highly strategic, on the Canal Grande near St. Mark’s Square. Ever since then, Harry's Bar has been famous throughout the world.

The American writer Ernest Hemingway loved Harry's Bar and every time he stayed in Venice after hunting ducks on the nearby Caorle lagoon, he always had a table reserved for him so he could enjoy a delicious "Bellini".

The charm of this place has attracted floods of visitors over the years, from famous Americans and royalty to film stars and heads of state.
