Vincenzo Scamozzi (Vicenza 1552 - Venice 1616) was a leading architect from the Veneto area who worked in the 16th and 17th Centuries. His early work was greatly influenced by Palladio, such as his splendid Villa di Rocca Pisani in Lonigo (1576).

He lived in Rome in various occasions, where he studied and analysed the city’s ancient monuments. In 1582 he was awarded the contract for the completion of Sansovino’s St. Mark’s Library in Venice, resulting in the Procuratie Nuove.
Scamozzi became highly interested in theatre and scenography in that period, leading to his work on the interior of the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza in 1584 and then completion of the theatre in Sabbioneta in 1590, the most perfect example of Renaissance theatre design in Italy. Other works in Venice include the church of San Nicola dei Tolentini and Palazzo Contarini degli Scrigni e Corfù in 1609.

The last exponent of the great period of Venetian Renaissance architecture, Scamozzi wrote a treatise in 1615 named "Dell’idea dell’architettura universale".
